Ian Ware:

Hi All,

Well, I went to see vent last night at the Wedgewood rooms in Portsmouth. It was a strange gig with so many faces from the past appearing to haunt me (including (i think) an ex-girlfriend!). Amongst the Punters in the venue of note were Martins brother Tank who used to manage the neds and is now managing Vent + Understand. It's probably been mentioned here before but Vent are due in the studio on the 13th April to record the album. Simon tableman was doing the sound for Vent and the support band Redwood (who were ok). Simon used to do sound for Ned's Atomic Dustbin but I don't think he's a permanent fixture for vent as he's moving to the states apparently. Also in the crowd was one of Ned's atomic dustbins old roadies. Anyway now for the gig......

Well, they came, played some noise (i don't think i heard too many tunes) and went off again. Vent put alot of effort into the gig. Miles' voice was as good as ever (even if he has almost no hair and looks like Eddie from Bottom now!). Miles was wearing a dodgy V neck stripey jumper and stood still, Matey on bass looked and acted exactly like he used to when he played for the senseless things. Vent played for about 45 minutes, most of the songs had potential but required a tune the songs were a little bit pearl jamish with senseless things bass lines thrown in for good measure, it was a definate attempt to depart from the old pop song image of the Wonderstuff. Amongst this mess of slightly above average noise there were about 2 or 3 tracks that sounded good. I think they could definately use an extra guitar in the line up. The venue was half full of about 200 odd people who just turned up to see what Miles had to offer with his new band. I think the only person in the crowd that appeared to know any of the songs was tank! although speaking to him later, Vent went out on these dates to try out about 7 new songs. If they all went down as well as they did last night i don't think any of them will appear on the album!.

Well thats it, my totally unbiased opinion of the whole charade!
