Mike Carey:

This was the first time I've seen Miles perform live since the second saddest day of my life 2 years ago. Was I nervous? Yes, shaking like a leaf. This man has meant so much to me between the years 87-94 and I didn't want to be disappointed. Thankfully, I wasn't.

Miles came on and shouted "For those of you about to ROCK, we salute you" and that was it, guitar mayhem ensued.

If you haven't heard Vent 414 it's difficult to describe their sound. Not like The Wonderstuff particularly, more like Rage Against The Machine with Miles' fantastic songwriting thrown in. Miles shows that he is a brilliant guitarist and a stunning vocalist.

No point talking about the songs other than to say that "Fixer" (the first UK single, September) is a classic and might even get some mainstream airplay! We can only hope.

I met Rob and Lynn (albeit extremely briefly) from the list but was basically too nervous/excited/worried/elated to do anything but drink lots of expensive Pepsi Max, sweat profusely and marvel in the wonder that is Miles Hunt.

Cant wait for the next time. If anybody tracks down bootleg tapes, post details!

Rob Stokes:

Agreed - Wonder Stuff fans will not automatically like Vent (and maybe also WKWYL) due to the complete change of direction by both bands from what we're used to.

Whilst I saw them at the Wolves Varsity (hi to Mike & Lynn!) and think it was a great gig (despite the soaring temperature in the venue), the songs that I thought best were the ones that I've heard off the sessions - Fixer, Fits & Starts, Correctional & Night Out With A Foreign Fella. I like to be able to hear the lyrics of songs whereas so far - with both groups - the lyrics have been overshadowed by the backing (or just unsuitable for the acoustics in the room). If someone came up to me and asked me what the lyrics were to Vent's songs, I doubt I'd be able to manage any other than the four I know. Once the album's out and I can follow the words, I might enjoy the songs better. Hands up who thinks Morgan is a bit of a manic b*****d???

I'll not be back on till about Tuesday or Wednesday so a mental "Happy Birthday" is wished by myself to Milo for Monday (ooh.... 30!!!) and a gentle reminder to UK list members of Monday's Radcliffe show on BBC Radio 1FM from 10pm. Do we know if this is Milo on his own (possibilities of an acoustic performance therefore???) or a full group contribution.

See you all on a few days.
